Design Review and Construction Supervision of Accra – Kumasi Highway Dualization Project (Lot 6): Apedwa – Nsawam (Km 156-187) including Nsawam Bypass, Ghana including Nsawam Bypass, Ghana

Background
The Nsawam-Apedwa Road (41km) Route N6, in the Eastern Region of Ghana is an important road, being an integral part of the Trans African Highway Network. The road, a single carriageway, traverses both urban and rural settlements. The proposed road project generally follows the alignment of the existing road except for about 9.3km bypass section at Nsawam. The bypass is to the west of Nsawam Township on a new alignment passing through flood plains and rolling/hill terrain. The improved road will carry international and maritime traffic diverted from the ports of Abidjan and San Pedro (both in La Cote D’Ivoire) to Tema and Takoradi in Ghana. Implementation of the project will therefore enhance economic activities, movement of goods and people and facilitate  regional trade and economic integration between Ghana and the northern landlocked countries. The pavement consists of asphaltic concrete on a DBM laid over crushed stone base and cement treated gravel subbase.
